Maricopa Wells Volleyball Team Competes in Ak-Chin “Toy Drive” Tournament

On Friday December 5th and Saturday December 6th members of the Maricopa Wells Girls’ Volleyball Team participated in the Adult Co-Ed Volleyball Toy Drive Tournament held at the Ak-Chin Indian Community’s Milton “Paul” Antone Memorial Park.   In order to enter the tournament each player on the roster was asked to bring a toy or a blanket, and the Maricopa Wells players chose to bring blankets. Since the teams were required to have both male and female participants, the girls invited their dads, Coach Jecksen Quiones and Principal Rick Abel to play.  The tournament consisted of 18 co-ed teams. The Wells Volleyball Team won their first game on Friday night, and then they played Saturday morning, put up a good fight, but lost that contest. They also played later that morning and won the first set by forfeit, but then lost the last two sets. Overall though, the girls and their dads had a great time.

Ann Marie Antone - Ak-Chin Indian Community Middle School Advisor stated, “The Ak-Chin Indian Community, the Ak-Chin Youth Council and I want to say thanks to the Maricopa Wells Volleyball Team for participating and supporting our yearly toy and blanket drive.”  All donated toys go to kids and families who are less fortunate and all of the donated blankets will be given to elderly community members.
