MUSD and City of Maricopa Conduct Tabletop Safety Training

On Tuesday, April 21st,  the  Maricopa Unified School District coordinated efforts with the City of Maricopa emergency office to conduct a tabletop exercise to prepare and train personnel to respond to a disaster within the community. Local agencies participated in a safety scenario that included MUSD staff, Maricopa Police and Fire Departments, AK-Chin Police and Fire Departments, and members of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). These CERT volunteers are members of the community trained to react to local disasters.  The tabletop exercise was based on the National Incident Management System. Topics included processes for mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Goals included communication, resource management, the Incident Command System, and public information. The tabletop exercise identified strengths and weakness in the after action report. The previous tabletop training exercise focused on MUSD occurred two years ago. The plan is to make this training exercise an annual event.
