Desert Wind Middle School Students Go to Six Flags Magic Mountain

On May 15th, 83 students from Desert Wind Middle School participated in a year end trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain. The 8th Grade Club voted in October on where to go for this year's trip and they decided on Six Flags. To qualify for the trip students students had to meet academic and behavioral expectations throughout the year. The cost for each student was $136.  Students had multiple opportunities throughout the year to raise funds for the trip by selling candy bars.  In addition the 8th Grade Club also participated in fundraising activities in an effort to help offset the total cost per student. The students left on Friday, May 15, at 5:00 AM and arrived home on Saturday, May 16, at 8:30 AM.  The students had a great time and represented themselves, their families, Desert Wind Middle School, and the Maricopa community well. Teacher Derek Cooley stated: "We are proud of them and they deserved an exciting trip.  We look forward to next year's 8th grade trip."  The staff members in attendance were Derek Cooley, Evan Nechamkin, Maria King, and Karin Spilman.  Parent chaperones were Patti Coutre and Oscar Brown.
