Marching Rams Awarded Gila River Community Grant

(Maricopa) The Maricopa Unified School District was notified on Wednesday October 5th that the Gila River Community Council unanimously voted to approve a grant application for the Maricopa Unified School District #20, Maricopa High School Band Infrastructure Project in the amount of $75,000.00 to be paid over a period of two years. Program Director for the Gila River Office of Special Funding Cheryl Pablo stated, “We will begin processing the award immediately and an official award letter will be sent out as soon as we have it signed by Governor Lewis. I would like to offer my personal congratulations to your organization and look forward to our continued working relationship!”

Ivan Pour Music Director and Fine Arts Chair at Maricopa High School commented, “This is very exciting for the MHS band program. We will be able to make a major investment in our program - completing the purchase of hats, plumes and additional pants for our new band uniforms, replacing our more than 10-year old drum line, purchasing new marching tubas and making a major investment in instruments to support the growth and development of our band program!”

The District is proud of the work and commitment of our band students and the talented music faculty.  The generous donation from the Gila River Community is evidence of the exceptional reputation that the band program is building throughout our State. Congratulations!  Mr. Pour finishes by saying, “Our deep thanks and appreciation go out to the Gila River Indian Community for making this grant opportunity available and for their generosity in approving our proposal.”
