MHS Theatre Company at Central Arizona Festival of Theatre

(Maricopa) On January 28, students from the Maricopa High School Theatre Company traveled to Mesa Community College to participate in the Central Arizona Festival of Theatre (CAFT). Students who score Superior in their events are eligible and invited to participate in the International Thespian Society National Competition in Lincoln, Nebraska, an event held every June. Below are the performers and their events, all of whom scored Superior:

  • Carlos Venegas (senior), Solo Musical - "Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables. Carlos played the role of Jean Valjean in last spring's production of this show at MHS.
  • Kjirsten Lemon (sophomore), Solo Musical - "I Don't Know What I'd Do Without You" from A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder.
  • Britney Montgomery (junior), Solo Musical - "Light in the Piazza" from "The Light in the Piazza"
  • Taryn Story (sophomore), Solo Musical - "What Did I Have That I Don't Have" from On a Clear Day You Can See Forever
  • Dylan Stradling (senior) and Joycelyn Cabrera (junior) - Duo Acting, a scene from The Philadelphia Story. Dylan reprised his role as C.K. Dexter Haven from the MHS production held last winter in the Lecture Hall.
  • Adrian Perdomo (junior) and Jalen Reyes (junior) - Duo Acting, a scene from Blithe Spirit
  • Group Musical, "Magic to Do" from Pippin. Performers included: Carlos Venegas, Nikolas Mase (senior), Alyssa Hollingsworth (senior), Kari Beijmowicz (senior), Britney Montgomery, Kjirsten Lemon, Adrian Perdomo, Hannah Panter (sophomore), Chaienne Zoller (junior), Kade Kruse (sophomore), Morgan Lee (sophomore), Ivie Keene (junior), and Taryn Story 


Hannah Panter and Collin Martin (junior) also scored an overall Excellent in their Musical Duet of "16 Going on 17" from The Sound of Music

Also scoring Excellent was the one-act play, directed by senior Tyler Curtis and starring Sarah Ledbetter (senior), Mahkai Ball (senior), Nik Mase, Rachel Blakely (senior), and Natasha Nechvatal (junior). 

Mrs. Calhoun commented, “When you see these students, please congratulate them. This was our most successful competition yet, and we are excitedly making plans to compete at the National level.”
