(Maricopa) On Saturday, December 2nd the Maricopa High School Symphonic Band participated for the first time in the ABODA Fall Concert Band Festival. This year the event was held at Mountain View High School in Mesa. The band gave a quality performance, earning the second-highest rating of Excellent for their performance. The band earned praise for improvements over previous performances in ensemble-style and phrasing and received excellent feedback on how to improve before the Area Festival in February.

The band had a wonderful clinic with Mr. Eric Haenfler, Judge’s Coordinator for ABODA and former Highland High School Band Director. The clinic focused on minor performance changes and improvements to consider as the students continue to grow. In addition to their performance and clinic, the band listened to three outstanding groups from other area schools (Hamilton High, Shadow Ridge High and Brophy College Prep), additionally Director Mr. Ivan Pour received a separate commentary tape on his conducting technique. Mr. Pour commented, “It was a wonderful morning of music making and a great start to our concert band season!”

The Symphonic Band will be joining the Intermediate Band, Chamber Orchestra and Marching Band for our Fall “Pass in Review” Concert onTuesday, December 5th at 7pm in the MHS Performing Arts Center. The program is a mix of standard literature and holiday fare, along with a recap of marching season. Admission is free. Thank you for your support of music and the arts!
