Butterfield Elementary Hosts 1st Shark Tank

(Submitted by 5th Grade Teacher Mrs. Kristin McMullen)

(Maricopa, AZ) On Friday, December 8th, Butterfield Elementary School hosted their first Shark Tank.  With the help of the Maricopa High School DECA Program, the fifth graders designed products that would solve problems they face in their everyday lives.  The students worked in groups to create presentations, prototypes and marketing campaigns for their products.  They presented them to other classes and parents, as well as a panel of judges.  The judges were Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board President Patti Coutre, Butterfield Elementary School Advanced Math Professor Dr. Murray Siegel, Maricopa Unified School District’s Volunteer Coordinator Jim Irving, InMaricopa Reporter Michelle Chance, and Maricopa High School Student and DECA President Harrison Edmonson.    The panel selected winners from each class and those winners went on to compete for the grand prize that was generously donated from the High School’s DECA Club.  The winning team created a product called “The Laundry Lifter”.
