Anytime that a student is going to be sick or will be missing school, the front office needs to be notified within 24 hours of the absence, preferrably the same day. You can call the attendance line, anytime day or night at 520-568-6110 ext 2401. You can also email our Attendance Clerk at email@example.com. We will notate in the system the reason, but until we have a note (only have 24 hours upon returning to school) from the parent, doctor, dentist, therapist, court, or a funeral notice, the absence will not be updated to excused. Once a student has been out two days in a row due to illness, a doctor's note is required to excuse the absence.
Please keep in mind, that not all reasons for an absence are excused by the state of Arizona. When calling/emailing in please leave a reason for the absence along with the students name when calling or emailing so that we can mark it unexcused until we get the note. Notes must be received within 24 hours of the students return to school. After that time, the absence will remain unexcused.
Please try to schedule doctor, dentist and eye appointments after our early release Wednesdays, after school or during our breaks from school. If a student is picked up early for an appointment, a doctor, dentist, therapy, and court note will need to be turned in the following day to have the absence updated to excused.
The state of Arizona considers 5 or more unexcused absences as "habitually truant". When a student has missed 10% or 18 days of school, they are considered to have "excessive absences", whether they are excused or unexcused. According to the Arizona Revised Statues, Section 15-802, you or your child could be cited for violation of these education laws.
Attendance also affects our school's letter grade. Please help in making sure students are on time and not checked out early as well.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
