How many hours does my child have to be online?
Weekly minimum hours vary by grade level. The overall time spent on school both online and offline should be comparable to the hours a student would spend if they were attending in person. The average is 24 to 36 hours per week.

What amount of time is spent with a teacher live?
Grade K-2

*Students in grades K-5 must attend live sessions.

Will the school provide computers?
Yes. Students will have a device checked out to them at the start of the school year. It is the family's responsibility to provide reliable internet.

Are teachers certified?
Yes, all MVA teachers will be certified teachers approved by the Az Department of Education.

How are parents kept informed of student progress and school related information?
Parents will have access to the online learning platform that will allow them to monitor student progress in the system. Teachers will also communicate with parents and will be available during office hours to take parent questions. Progress reports and report cards will be sent home as well.

How is attendance taken?
- Students and parents must log the attendance in our online system weekly.
- Students must log a minimum number of hours per week.
- Logs will be compared to the online system reports to verify logins to the system and time spent working.
- Failure to report attendance or maintain adequate weekly progress may result in required in person learning sessions.

Do students need to log in daily?
Students need to log in a minimum of 5 days a week in order to maintain adequate progress in their courses. Elementary students must log in for synchronous sessions with the teacher.

Are there any in-person activities?
Some assessments in grade 6-12 and final exams must be taken in person at a site proctored by the MVA administration. Appointments will need to be made for these in person sessions. State assessments will also be conducted in person.

Can my student still participate in extracurricular activities like athletics or school dances?
- Yes. However, arrangements must be made with the administration of MVA and the neighborhood school in advance to ensure participation.

How does the school manage behavior issues?
Students will be subject to the same code of conduct as all MUSD students.
Note that some disciplinary consequences may require a student to attend live sessions. -
Is MVA a credit recovery program?
Credit recovery is only available in the summer sessions of MVA.

What if my student has an IEP or 504, how will he/she get assistance?
- Students who have an IEP or 504 should consult their current team to determine if MVA is the best placement for them and whether their needs can be serviced.

If my student wants to change back to in-person what is the process?
- Students in elementary school will need to wait until the end of the quarter to change back to in-person learning.
- Students at the secondary level will need to wait until the end of the semester to change back to in-person learning.
- The process for change will require a transfer of your student from MVA and enrolling your student at your neighborhood school.

Tutoring hours and office hours will be posted for each teacher and will be available weekly.
