What is an accelerated program?
An accelerated program allows students to work a grade level ahead in Mathematics and English Language Arts. The curriculum is condensed to include essential and extended learning opportunities implemented at a faster pace than the traditional curriculum.

Can I enroll my child if we do not live within district boundaries?
Absolutely! All children are invited to participate in Maricopa’s Accelerated Program. Visit our Open Enrollment webpage for more information.

What are the goals of the MUSD Accelerated Program?
- Students are academically accelerated
- Students develop flexibility, creativity and the willingness to take intellectual risks.
- Students gain the ability to integrate thinking, to assimilate information as opposed to memorizing isolated facts.

What are the age and entrance requirements?
- Kindergarten students who have attended MUSD’s early childhood program are eligible to attend the accelerated program. All other Kindergarten students may enter the program pending an entrance evaluation to assess essential skills needed to be successful. The program includes opportunities to support students and parents academically throughout the school year through tutoring and other after- school opportunities.
- Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by September 1.
- Space is limited. Students who meet program requirements and complete the enrollment process will be accepted into the program on a first-come, first-served basis.

What academic content and support are provided?
- Arizona State Standards will be taught in the classroom by a highly-qualified teacher.
- Paraprofessionals will provide additional support in kindergarten classrooms for students learning at an accelerated pace.
- Intervention opportunities are available as needed.

When do classes begin?
Classes follow the Maricopa Unified School District school calendar.

How can parents help?
- Commit to participating in the program long-term so that your child can develop advanced-level skills.
- Communicate with your child’s teacher
- Parental involvement
- Develop an understanding of accelerated programming
- Read with your student in 15 - 20 minutes a day.

About MUSD Accelerated Program Kindergarten
The MUSD accelerated kindergarten program is a full-day (Monday-Friday, 8:10 AM - 3:10 PM) tuition-free program. This program is located at Saddleback Elementary School.
