  • Maricopa High School Symphonic Band

On Saturday, December 7th the Maricopa High School Symphonic Band participated in the ABODA Fall Concert Band Festival held at Chandler Gilbert Community College.

The band performed the complete Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst and John Philip Sousa’s High School Cadets March. The band also listened to performances from four other band programs and had an awesome clinic with Dr. Robert Hunter, Director of Bands at Mesa Community College.

For their performance the band received a rating of “Excellent with Recognition” which means they were awarded the second highest rating or higher by all three judges.

The band received praise for solid preparation of challenging repertoire and got lots of ideas and feedback as we prepare for Area Concert Festival in March.  Thanks to all for your support of the band program and the arts at MHS!

    9th & 10th Calvary

The First African American soldiers to arrive in Arizona at Fort Huachuca were the Buffalo Soldiers in the 1890’s; the 9th and 10th Calvaries and the 24th and 25th Infantry Regiments.  The Fort Huachuca Buffalo Soldiers distinguished themselves in the Spanish American War and the charge up San Juan Hill.  They were part of the Punitive Expedition into Mexico and were sent to Camp Naco, Arizona, Camp Little in Nogales and other locations in Arizona to guard the Arizona Borders during the Mexican Revolution.1

Today at Maricopa High School, we had the pleasure of having Buffalo Soldiers visit the campus and speak to our Juniors and Seniors
